girls HQ

Girls HQ is almost complete..
There are a few little things that I still want to do but on the whole it's done.

Mid Saturday morning pajama play session I have managed to take some snaps to share..
I have put this room together using everything that we already had..
The only "new addition" is the blackboard..
Mr Right and his cordless drill, a piece of MDF - standard size, so no need for cutting, and a tin of blackboard paint and a little motivation is all it took...
The girls and their friends are loving it and it is well used by them and ME!
It's really handy for subliminal messages and job lists...

Sweetness corner...
Prints were gifts and fairy cross stitch was a special gift too.
Dolls house was spotted at a friends house in the "donate" pile..
Needless to say my heart skipped a beat, a small exchange and she was ours..
Thanks miss Julie x
Now well loved and well used..

Dolly corner..
Little table handmade by my grandfather and little vintage kinda chair picked up by my mum

$5 dolls house kit from Cotton on Kids...
Couldn't believe my luck
then quickly realised there was a very valid reason why they were heavily reduced to $5...
Two five dollar dolls houses = at least 3 hours work...

But i love them sooooooooo...

girly friends....

the "unfinished"  reading corner...
Such an amazingly beautiful spot to curl up with a book..
It currently has - a lovely old wingback chair picked up from my favourite op shop, draped in a sheet - for now... Still deciding whether i cover her myself or just leave it to a professional..
Also have a few other little ideas for his spot.

This chair is almost the identical shape...
Maybe a little brave for my first upholstery attempt...
but i can see it now...

until I'm brave enough....this is how she sits...

Blackboard love

under my feet as I snapped...
Blissful Saturday morning..
Play and pajamas...

 followed by berries and pancakes..
Oh how we love the weekend..

Big girls and small are drawn to this room...
I have soo many big & little girls comment that it their favorite room in the house..
It is probably one of the only rooms "almost finished"... Perhaps that's why..
The girls have the tv and Wii in there too...
But i tend to hear more singing, voice impersonations, music, thumping from dancing and tiffs coming from this room...

So this room works...
The girls and their friends love it
It cost next to nothing to style
It is tucked away down the "girls" end of the house - so i never have to worry about cleaning and fluffing it before guests..It has a sliding door that is in regular use...
Winner..

Enjoy your weekend :)
Oh and news flash - I have (another) new addiction....
Instagram.. I have always loved but as my personality would have it, I am now well and truly hooked - line and sinker...
Come find me at Melissa@whiteverandah....

sweet words

I just had to share....for a number of reasons...
Charlotte came home from school last week with this letter from one of her friends and it made me smile broadly and reflect on those very very sweet words.

So here's my reflection:

* I would be a super proud mama of the little girl that wrote the letter.. This little girl thought to put these lovely sentiments in a sweet little letter to her friend - sharing some positives,  nurturing her friendship, celebrating her friendship and showing her appreciation...

* How often do we do this, us girls, to each other? It is something that I try exceptionally hard to teach my girls, the next generation of big girls.. To love, nurture and celebrate other girls in their lives. I personally could not live without "my girls" - my friends, my family, and I love to embrace new "girls" that find their way into my life....

* I beamed with pride when i read that letter too, about my big girl...
She is listening , she is watching, she is learning..
About loving, nurturing, supporting, celebrating and enjoying other girls.
I think we as mama's have a responsibility today and everyday to ensure that our girls know how to do this, when bullying in schools and cyber bullying is a major problem in our society...

Spread the love peeps....don't get me started on our responsibilities to little boys, that's a whole other post...

So a challenge for you ladies....
spread some love to the little and big girls in your life,  perhaps in a little glitter pen hand written note, a few spoken words, a little something special, flower from your garden..
and when you do so, tell your little girl what your doing and why and how much you value the women in your life and why..

happy day

It's true -  these are the reasons I am smiling today:

 * the sun is shining
* White Verandah has a driveway full of tradies utes
* my babies sung their little hearts out all morning to their school musical CD - oh the joy of little voices singing in the morning
* Mr Right and I are on the tools today putting up the timber in the vaulted ceiling
* it's friday and that means fish and chip night
* I ordered the basins, bath, etc , etc this morning after much deliberation
* we shared our first meal - homemade pizza at white verandah last night and it was delicious - the pizza, the moment and the sun setting over the hills and on the big trees on the hill!
* I found a potential tradie to tile and he can do it when I want him to - big bonus
* my girls trip is next week!! It has crept up but we are all off to Tassie to eat, laugh, probably cry (at a movie or something) and recharge our mumma batteries - oh how I love goddess gatherings!
* Oh - and I almost forgot, and in hindsight - this may have been number one, ONE more sleep until my cabinetry is installed - kitchen, laundry/mudroom, vanities, etc ...I have warned my very patient and lovely cabinet maker - the peanut gallery will be on site, perched in a corner, camera poised and watching them work.... I may make the best ever carrot cake to take along as a sweetener.. (I'll share that recipe soon - delish!)
* Oh OH Oh.... and I have skirting boards today, big delicious ones - ok only three but by the end of today there will be many!!!!

Photos from last night...

Happy day to you all too....
What has made you smile today??

Always made for school lunches but always disappear with an after dinner cuppa..

We loved
our new pet, Lucy the Rabbit

We snuggled
our newest addition to the family, a baby girl guinea pig who's name has kept changing over the weekend

The girls are besotted..
Unfortunately Lucy is not so with our new baby guinea girl
after a few close calls and some fur flying, Mr Right is searching ebay for a separate hut. I envisaged them snuggling up together but not to be :(

Too true - be adventurous

Image - i am blessed

Life is intriquing me as i grow older wiser...
A daring adventure or nothing - that is exactly as it is!
Be bold, be adventurous and take the bull by the horns, no excuses
Life has thrown us a few little curve balls of late but Mr Right pointed out on the weekend whilst at the local tractor pull, that we are indeed very lucky with our little chickens - they really are very healthy.
We saw other families with such adversity in their lives and very sick little ones - whats a few itchies?
Very insightful Mr Right!
Little chook is on the improve slightly - chronic hives with no allergies they now tell me...
She is smiling..
We are all smiling today as the beginnings of the floor went down on the house..

Image i am blessed

I love this pic!! Grab your specs and read it twice to make sure you dont miss anything..
I want this on my fridge to remind me every day to be passionate about life, people, sharing and living - and to appreciate that i CAN DO all of these things!

Thats my tired old rant for today

Thanks for reading

Beach

Look mummy a love heart xx
We enjoyed a trip to the beach on the weekend as a family and had a big bike ride then a well deserved dip in the ocean...

Charlotte noticed this "love heart" on the sand - she honestly finds love hearts in everything! As we walked down to the dairy to get milk for the calves this morning, she pointed out a love heart rock... No camera on hand for that one though. Just so lovely and refreshing that she sees symbols of love all over the place. It reminds me to open my eyes to it..
